Become a career coach

Train to coach properly — with supervised practice, not a weekend certificate

Coaching is a learnable craft. Our cohorts are small, practice starts in the first fortnight, and the program is honest about the market, the money and the time it really takes.

Who trains with us

People who already help others think, and want to do it properly

Most participants arrive with a decade or more of real experience and a growing sense that formal coaching skill would change how they work.
  • Experienced professionals at a crossroads

Fifteen years of judgment and hard-won insight, looking for work that uses it directly and travels with them.

“I am good at helping people think, and I want to do more of it.”

  • HR, L&D and people professionals

People who already run development conversations and want formal coaching skill rather than improvised advice-giving.

“I coach all day without the training or the boundaries.”

  • Managers and team leads

Leaders who want to develop people through questions instead of instructions, without becoming their therapist.

“My team brings me problems and I solve them all myself.”

  • Coaches who want depth

Practicing coaches with clients, looking for supervision, harder caseloads and a structured way to keep improving.

“My sessions work until they do not, and I have no one to review them with.”

  • Consultants, trainers and mentors

Advisors whose clients keep asking for thinking partnership rather than expertise, and who want to deliver it properly.

“My clients want me to coach, but my habits are all advice.”

  • Career services and education staff

University careers advisors, bootcamp instructors and outplacement professionals formalizing what they already do informally.

“I give career advice all day and want to do it at a professional standard.”

The craft

What you will actually learn to do

Six capabilities, each practiced in a live session and reviewed against a published standard.
  • Listening for the real issueHearing what a client means rather than what they opened with — and knowing the difference before you respond.
  • Questioning that creates movementQuestions that open thinking and produce commitment, instead of interrogations that produce politeness.
  • Structure without rigidityA session shape you can trust when the conversation goes sideways, and the judgment to abandon it when it should be abandoned.
  • Contracting and ethicsClear agreements, honest boundaries, and confidence about what is out of scope and when to refer.
  • Working with emotionCareers involve fear and identity. You will learn to name what is in the room without losing the thread of the work.
  • Building a practiceNiche, offer, pricing, acquisition and the practical economics of the first honest year.

The honest version

“You just need a certification and clients appear.”
Certification opens the door. Clients come from conversations, referrals and a clear offer that people can explain to someone else.
“Weekend courses are enough.”
Trained practitioners practice for months under supervision. That is what makes the difference between a helpful conversation and professional coaching.
“You need to be an extrovert or a natural.”
Coaching is a learned craft with learnable components: listening, questioning, structuring, contracting. Quiet practitioners do this work extremely well.

How we teach

Four commitments that shape every cohort

Small cohorts, always

Twelve participants maximum in Foundations, eight in the Practicum. Practice time is the product; large groups make it impossible.

Practice from week one

You will coach a real person in your first fortnight, not in month three. Feedback comes from a facilitator, not just from peers.

Assessment you can see

Every recorded session is reviewed against a published rubric, so you know exactly what “good” looks like and where you stand.

Honest about the business

Where the money comes from, what it costs, how long it takes. Includes the parts most programs leave out.

What changes for people who train here

Client stories shown on this site are illustrative examples pending publication of verified, permissioned testimonials.

  • “I arrived with a spreadsheet of forty possible careers and left with three experiments to run. Six weeks later I knew which one was real. The structure is what did it — not encouragement.”

  • “I had been applying for nine months with nothing to show. We rewrote how I described my work, and within a month I was having conversations rather than sending applications into a void.”

  • “The rehearsal sessions were uncomfortable and completely worth it. I stopped rambling, told the truth about what I had achieved, and negotiated a package I would have accepted a third less of before.”

  • “As an HR lead I coached every week without any real training. Foundations gave me a framework, boundaries and feedback on recordings of my own sessions. It changed how I work with people.”

Decisions actually get made

The most common result is not a new job in week two — it is a decision made with evidence instead of another six months of considering.

Language that lands

Clients consistently report that they can finally explain their value in one sentence that other people repeat back to them.

A search that behaves differently

Moving from cold applications to warm conversations changes response rates more than any document edit alone.

Practitioners who keep improving

Training participants continue supervised practice after the cohort, because the habit is what sustains a coaching career.

Questions

Training questions, answered plainly

Becoming a career coach

Training format, prerequisites and what happens after you qualify.

Do I need a coaching qualification to join the Foundations program?
No. Foundations assumes no prior coaching training. Advanced Coaching Practicum and Practice Launch do assume a foundation level of training or equivalent experience, which we review on your call.
How long does it take to become a career coach?
Realistically, three to twelve months to be properly trained with supervised practice, and six to eighteen months to build a practice with paying clients. Anyone selling a weekend certification as a complete path is overselling.
Is the certification recognized by a professional body?
Our programs certify completion of our own structured training, including documented supervised practice hours. They are not accredited by an external professional body. We will tell you plainly which external credentials are worth having for your specific goals, what they require and what they cost — including when the answer is “not yet”.
Can my employer pay for the training?
Yes. We invoice organizations directly, accept purchase orders, and provide a completion report for the sponsor. There is a private-cohort option for teams of four or more.
What if I complete the training and decide coaching is not for me?
That is a legitimate outcome and not a failure. We build an honest business session into every pathway, and several participants discover that internal coaching within their existing role is the better fit. Either result is a good use of the training.

Also worth knowing

  • Our certification is our own — we will tell you which external credentials matter for your goals and what they require
  • Employers can be invoiced directly, with purchase orders accepted
  • Participants who decide coaching is not for them get that answer honestly, not a refund argument
